Parenting in 2026 can feel like building a sandcastle while the tide rolls in. The cultural pressure on our kids is relentless — and in an astonishing short period of time, we can discover our kids have been pulled out to sea via social pressure and the pervasive algorithm.
Before we stand standing wonderfing where our kids have gone, let’s recalibrate and remember that faith and awareness is built at home (and through the church).
Building wisdom and character in our children doesn’t happen in a single big conversation. It occurs through daily example, earnest times of prayer, devotions, conversations about life and faith at the table, listening, and keeping the truth and love we adminster in balance.
Either weekly or daily: Pick a mealtime where phones go in a basket and one question gets asked: “How did God meet with you this week? Or “What did God teach you this week?” Don’t force a deep answer. Just ask, listen, and watch what happens over a month.
The goal isn’t perfect kids. It’s kids who know the anchor they need – in order to avoid being dragged out to sea – is found through their relationship with Jesus and a family who cares enough to compassionately listen.
Knowing this, they become well aquainted with the grace and hope the world cannot offer.
