The GenEsIs wall
The paintings that grace our hallway are the account of the Genesis story. They were donated by an elderly woman who loves God.

Thank you Jesus. After almost 5 years after the church fire our new adventure begins.
Finally AMEN! Two of our four insurance claims are almost finished. The parsonage home which will be the future home for Pastor Rocky and Alnita Moore is almost complete. The County has signed off on the installation and the finishing touches are being completed. The brand new home should be completely finished by the end of this week. God is so amazing how he restores the old into the new.
Our Trustees and Pastors have been investigating building alternatives for the Sanctuary. We have been looking into steel structures. It seems that going this direction gives us many more options including more square footage and incorporating our office and children's ministries under one roof. Mike and I visited Pastor Bruce and Linda Newton's church, Sierra Pines in Oakhurst, CA. They were part of a steel construction project almost 20 years ago. Pastor Bruce was so knowledgeable in the to do's and don'ts that we know more than ever on how to proceed. Please keep this next step of restoration in your prayers.

Early morning yesterday 2 vehicles were apparently racing eastbound on Highway 74 crashed into our concrete/wrought iron fence. Where we were originally distracted by the event we later rejoiced that the two drivers of these vehicles were not injured. When you look at the condition of the crashed vehicles and gave God glory that 2 people walked away from this crash. Fortunately, both drivers were insured and we will deal with the details in coming days. We prayed for the drivers and their families that they would see the miracle that God preformed to save their lives. Below is the link to the story and pictures of the accident. After being on the road for 2400 miles in the motorhome for 15 days, it's nice to be home in Homeland. The conference in Baker City, OR was amazing and we enjoyed the ministry aspect of the trip immensely. Our 2 cats survived the journey, although I wasn't sure we would! These two were not happy campers but at times they made the best of the trip. This is not what they are accustomed to at all! They are happy to be home too! changes in homeland Since we have been gone, the parsonage and the sanctuary have been demolished leaving the footprint that will make way for the new structures. We have also received the new cathedral tent where we will hold worship services until the new church is completed. It is smaller that the first tent and designed to be cooled and stay cooler. So hopefully during the hot summer months it will be comfortable.
So tomorrow will be our first service in the new tent. We have changed the Traditional Service to 9:00AM so it will be cooler for our Seniors and the New Hope Experience Service to 11:00AM. We left Baker City, OR this morning and are now in Salem OR. As we drive along the Columbia River I can't help but to be in AWE of God's amazing creation. Maybe they could send some of that water to California! Just saying. Many thanks to Peggy and Daniel Brown from Calvary Chapel of Romoland. Peggy has kicked off a campaign called "Prayer Changes Things." She sent over 100 signs to Oregon with us to give away. Her mission is to put these signs in every state in the United States. Oregon was the 14th state to receive these signs. Harvest Church was so excited to receive these and have posted them all over Baker City.
Well, it's been 2 and a half months since the first fire on the church property. And with all the planning and insurance negotiations, demolition has begun. Today the parsonage was demo-ed. Where it was sad, it was also exciting to see the old destroyed building making way for a new beginning. Thank you Mary Ann Gilleon for taking the photos of the process. The demo on the sanctuary will take place as late as Thursday this week. This too will be an exciting new beginning.
We have also ordered a new tent to worship in. It will be a smaller version of the present tent, but we will own it instead of renting it. It is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow and hopeful set up for services on Sunday. Thank you Ron Cooper for all you have done through this. Mike and I are still in Oregon. We just finished a conference in Baker City called Taking the City for Christ. 5 churches came together and gave honor and glory to God this weekend. It was an amazing event. We prayed for and over the city. This is our 3rd year participating in this crusade. And prophetically God again rained down His Spirit on Baker City in the form of RAIN. Much like California, Oregon has been very dry, so when we asked God to rain down, He did!! Also, this weekend was the annual "Hell's Canyon Biker's Convention." Over 5000 bikers came to Baker City to party and have fun. The funniest thing is when they would take off their helmets, most of them had very gray hair. And most of them came in their RVs and pulled their bikes in trailers. :) The goodness and kindness of God continues to bless us with contributions from The Grove in Riverside, Clairmont Church of God in San Diego, New Horizon Christian Community Church in Gardenia and the Center of Spiritual Living in Murrieta, The Apostolic Faith Tabernacle in Sylmar, John & Barbara Cellars, Jim & Karen Northcutt and Linda Lange. We thank everyone for the prayers and support. When God's people unite powerful things happen!! Janet Long from the LDS church is holding a food drive for our pantry. So they will be arriving on Saturday July 9 at 8:30am to deliver the food and greet and meet people. In the mean time, Margaret Blain is organizing a clothes bank too. So if you have any clothes or food you would like to donate to the food bank, the need is always there. Update on the progress: We have the approval from the insurance company for demolition of both the parsonage and the sanctuary. Permits are being applied for now. We aren't completely sure of the dates, but it has been discussed that it will be soon! :) Ron Cooper has been amazing with his dealing with the details of this restoration. We have had a security guard on the campus every night which will end on Sunday night and a new surveillance system will be put into place on Monday. The church has purchased a cathedral tent to arrive in mid July or sooner. This will be our semi permeate home until the new church facility is ready. We are dealing with air conditioning issues and keeping it cool for the summer in the mean time, so let's stay flexible while we get all the details ironed out. Mike and I met with Rabbi Yosef yesterday. He is a Jesus believing Jew who is the Rabbi over 17 international synagogues. We were captivated by the information he shared with us and how all these synagogues were praying for Homeland! After lunch, he invited us over to his home where it was like walking back in time with ornate tapestries on the walls and artifacts everywhere. He had a 9 foot menorah in his living room and a seat of Moses. We were in AWH as he discussed his testimony and background as a Rabbi. He gave us a letter that he sent out to all his Spiritual Sons across the globe asking them to pray for Homeland. His synagogue gave me a gift of a prayer shawl and he explained what all the strands and knots meant. It was such an amazing afternoon, we just walked out after 2 1/2 hours and were speechless...all we could say was "WOW!" We are praying that God will give us favor to develop a relationship with Rabbi Yosef and that Christians and Jews may come together as it was meant to be. Shalom! The clock keeps ticking. With all the work with insurance companies, engineers, contractors, etc. we keep going forward. Saturday we were joined by friends and church families to clean up the property. Probably for the last time before the demolition and construction begins. We were joined by missionaries Elders: CJ Chapman, Salvador Mercado, Dakota Maughan, and Colby Frost. And Sisters: Blanchard, Keith, Wills and McCulloch from the Hemet area LDS Stakes. Also from South Bay COG in Torrance: Craig and Pam Herrick, Melissa McHenry and Mario Jackson. And our own members: Gary and Mary Ann Gilleon, Scott Castro, Pastor Rocky Moore, Lester, Charles and myself. Mike Selvar was awesome as he drove the large caterpillar around the property cleaning and moving everything in sight. We were able to clear the weeds and miscellaneous debris to be hauled to the dump. Karl Haag was amazing with his truck taking 3 loads of junk to the dump. Thank you everyone who volunteered to clean up the property and prepare "ye the way" for the demo crews who will be arriving sometime in the next 30 days. We are continuing to move forward with rebuilding. Leadership has been working with the insurance company on both buildings. We have a new electrical box and are waiting for Edison to re-connect our power to the property.
We have scheduled a general work day for Saturday June 11 at 9:00AM-3:00PM. We want to continue to keep the property up as best as we can during this restoration phase. At this point, weed patrol and cleaning miscellaneous areas is needed. Lunch will be provided. We continue to thank those who have been praying for us and those who are "boots on the ground." The services in the tent are working well. As we enter into the summer and hotter days there is a need for AC and fans to keep the tent comfortable. These issues have been addressed and with the return of electricity it will be much easier to accomplish. I drove down Neer street the other day where the home fire was set the same day as the parsonage and this is what I saw. Both fires were burning simultaneously. Praise God again that no one was living here either. With all the events of the past several weeks, it is just God's grace that no one has been hurt. We thank you, Lord for your goodness! We paid our thanks today to Fire Fighter's Engine 54 in Homeland. We wanted to honor them and thank them for all they have done for our church property over the past month. We were met by Paul Brown, Brian Chase and Michael Kyoile.
Paul Brown was on our campus for all three of our fires. Michael Dykier was also present at the fire on Friday. Ginger Gray, Gary & Mary Ann Gilleon, Ann Gray & Michele Maness, and Mike and I were privileged to present them goodies and meals as a token of our appreciation. We brought a basket of nuts, granola bars, popcorn and candy courtesy of the Women's Christian Connection. We also brought a ham, Subway sandwiches, brownies & cookies. Ann Gray and Michele Maness brought some homemade goodies as well. Our new friends gave us a tour of the fire engine and explained to us how a fire is fought. We had a delightful visit with Engine 54 of Homeland Fire. We thank God for these devoted people who work to make all our lives better. We lift them all up in prayer. Engine 54, we love you. But a good bit of news is that no new fires have been set since the suspect has been arrested. Praising God in Homeland!! May 20, 2016
It has not quite been 3 weeks since the fire destroyed the sanctuary of Community First Church of God in Homeland. Today the parsonage, where we lived for 4 years, was totally destroyed by fire as well. Fire Fighters were on the scene around 4:30AM. This one appears to be intentionally set. There were other places around the building which were attempted to be ignited. Cal Fire said they have some good evidence and a suspect is in custody. Apparently, there were several more fires started again in the area this morning. Last October 2015 there was also a fire at the parsonage. That fire was declared an arson fire. I will keep you informed as details are made available. But in the mean time, please keep Homeland in your prayers. And that this body of believers doesn't become discouraged. |
